"A woman's mind is cleaner than a man's -- That's because she changes it more often."

Oliver Hereford

spring cleaning - it's for more than just your house!

It's that time of year again. We break out the dust rags and the brooms. We clean out closets and cabinets and all those little things we ignore the rest of the year.

If you're like me, you feel great when it's done. But getting it done, is another matter. While I love to get organized, I hate to clean. With a new baby in the house, it seems like cleaning is all I ever do any more! (And I'm told it doesn't get any better as they grow older).

In the process of cleaning out our houses, cars and offices, we forget one vital thing. We forget to give ourselves a good cleaning as well!

Yes, the body occasionally needs a good spring cleaning. And just like cleaning the house, the process isn't always fun, but boy do you feel better afterwards!

What are some things you can do to cleanse your body? With your doctor's permission, try some of these suggestions!

  1. Drink cleansing tea from your local health food store.
  2. Add some extra fiber to your diet (about 35 grams a day)
  3. Drink water, water, water. (You know you don't drink enough!)
  4. Exercise
  5. Sit in the sauna
  6. Have a colonic (I've had one done, and believe it or not, it was a very relaxing experience. Don't be put off by the thought of it. Just try it)
  7. Try fasting
  8. Meditate! (Yes, your mind could use some "clearing of the cob webs" as well.

Just keep in mind that cleansing the body can be a very potent thing. Take it slowly. If your system is very toxic, cleansing can make you feel rather ill. This is normal. Just be sure not to do several types of cleansing at once. One at a time is the way to go.

Happy spring cleaning!

In March of 2006, I was interviewed by Diablo Magazine. They were doing their "Best of the East Bay" issue and had chosen our products as "best spa products" for the year.

This being my first interview ever, I was nervous, to say the least! In fact, I was so nervous, that I can't remember a single word of the conversation I had with the journalist that day, other than what I later read in the article.

I am still amazed that the poor journalist managed to get anything print worthy out of me that day. Apparently, there was only one quote worth printing, and it was this:

"Our products are so natural, you could almost eat them.
(Not that you'd want to!)"

Well, thankfully, I've become a little more eloquent with reporters since that day. But thinking back on that quote, made me realize that most of the ingredients we use in our products, can also be used to cook with! So I've decided to add a monthly recipe to each newsletter, based on our product ingredients. Here is the premier recipe!

orange clove pancakes
(For lighter, fluffier pancakes, simply add the spices to Bisquick mix. This pancake recipe is "pre-bisquick")

inspired by product: lull-a-bye ritual oil
inspired ingredients: orange, clove and safflower oil.

ingredients:

2 Cups   Whole wheat flour
(whole wheat pastry flour is best. I get mine at Whole Food)
1 ½ cups   Milk
2   Eggs
2 tsp   Orange extract (add 3 tsp if you like a strong flavor)
2 tsp   Ground cloves
    Zest of one orange
    Juice of one orange
(this is optional, I just don't like to wait the orange after grating off the zest.)
    Safflower oil
(if you are watching your weight, you can use a non-stick pan and some light cooking spray instead)

instructions: Mix everything in a large mixing bowl with a whisk. If you batter is still on the thick side, you can add an extra ¼ to ½ cup of milk. You want to be able to pour the batter fairly thin.

Fry till golden brown and serve! And while these aren't exactly slimming, they sure are good!

our favorite toppings:

  • Honey
  • Agave syrup (my favorite!)
  • Maple syrup

special notes: These won't look very pretty when finished, but yum!!!

low fat version: Use a non-stick quesadilla maker to cook your pancakes! You can also use this batter to make waffles.

Would you rather have a full day at the spa of just regular, no-frills services? Or one service with all the extras? Why?
email me your answer, and I'll post it in next months newsletter!

In fact, if you email your address along with it, I'll send you a
free sample
of our Lull-a-bye Botanical Bath Salts! (Don't worry, you won't start getting a bunch of junk mail from us every week. I promise)

We love our pancakes so much, that we just had to make the product that inspired them our products of the month. Lull-a-bye Ritual Oil.
